The Electrician is able and responsible to perform a wide range of electrical related and general tasks at Reed & Reed that support the ongoing construction activities on site.  This individual is typically part of a crew team that is self-performing tasks or helping the crew complete its planned activities for the day.  The Electrician is able to follow and understand direction, working alone or as part of a crew.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow established safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Study electrical drawings to help prepare project layout, determine dimensions, materials required and install accordingly.
  • Complete work with a high degree of pride and quality; check work routinely.
  • Installing grounding, above & below grade conduits (PVC, Rigid Galvanized, EMT, etc.), cable installation & termination (control, AC/DC distribution, 15kV, 35kV, 115kV, SCADA, etc.), transformers, switchgear, batteries, MV & HV switches, protection & control cabinets and instrument transformers.
  • Shape, cut, assemble and fasten materials to specified measurements using hand tools, machines, or a power saw.
  • Verify trueness of structure using plumb bob and level.
  • Setup and use of aerial equipment, scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace using hand tools.
  • Perform tasks in all electrical areas and aspects of a Substation construction project.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • When necessary can act as a small crew leader, planning ahead for them and delegating work assignments.
    Assist in commissioning activities.
  • Recognize and control the hazards involved in working in and around energized equipment.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must have appropriate state licensing.
  • Must have 3-5 years’ experience working in substations.
  • Must have related experience in high voltage environment.
  • Able to read and understand electrical drawings.
  • Familiar with NFPA 70E.
  • Skilled in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as, phase sticks, rotation meters, digital test equipment, fault finding equipment, amp meters, voltmeters, meggers.
  • Has good listening skills and is able to take direction; communicates verbally well.
  • Experience working with materials, methods, and the tools involved in electrical construction.
  • Able to determine when something is wrong or may go wrong; recognize the bigger picture.

This position requires travel throughout Reed & Reed’s operating region.
