AGC Maine Hosts 2025 Fall Conference & M.A.C. Award Celebration at the Nonantum Resort
Kennebunk, Maine – The Associated General Contractors of Maine (AGC Maine) proudly hosted its 2025 Fall Conference & M.A.C. (Major Achievement in Construction) Award event from Friday, October 31 through Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunk, Maine. The annual gathering brought together more than 125 contractors, industry professionals, and partners from across the state for a weekend of collaboration and celebration of excellence in Maine’s construction industry.
A highlight of the weekend was the presentation of the 2025 M.A.C. Award to Tom Nason, past AGC Maine Board President and retired from Sargent Electric. Since its inception in 1975, the Major Achievement in Construction (M.A.C.) Award has celebrated individuals who have made significant impacts in the construction industry, marketplace, and Maine. Tom joins the ranks of a distinguished list of previous honorees, leaders whose legacies have shaped our community. The first winner of the award was Ival “Bud” Cianchette and since then have included other recognizable names.
“Tom has been a cornerstone of Maine’s construction industry for decades,” said Kelly Flagg, Executive Director of AGC Maine. “His leadership, commitment to the industry, and passion for mentoring others have left a lasting impact on our members and the industry as a whole. We’re proud to recognize his dedication with this well-deserved award.”
Reflecting on the honor, Tom Nason shared, “I’m flabbergasted to be even considered in the company of other people who have been awarded this previously. Who would have thought a little kid from downtown Leeds, Maine, would ever get this recognition? It’s amazing to me.”
Tom’s distinguished career tells the story of why he was selected for this award. From his early beginnings in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers apprenticeship program to joining his father at Nason Electric, Tom steadily built a reputation for quality and leadership. After purchasing and then deciding to sell the family business, he later joined E.S. Boulos and Harlan Electric, advancing from project manager to business development executive and eventually business development manager for MYR Group.
As the north-of-Augusta project manager for E.S. Boulos, Tom oversaw some of the Bangor region’s most significant projects, including the Hollywood Casino, Cross Insurance Center, Penobscot Judicial Center, the Collins Center for the Arts, renovations at the Bangor Federal Building, multiple projects at Jackson Lab, and a University of Maine housing development affectionately dubbed “Happy Trails.” “I managed all of those,” Tom said proudly.
In 2020, Tom attempted retirement but was soon called back to take on one last challenge: helping Sargent Electric establish a presence in Maine. “Sargent had a little teeny office in Saco, above a bakery,” he recalled. “I started off with one employee, just myself and one project manager.” Within a year, the operation moved to Lewiston-Auburn, and under his leadership, the company’s revenue grew from $2 million in 2021 to $24.5 million by 2023. “I’m very proud of what we did – to start from zippo and one part-time project manager to a $25 million-per-year company in three years,” he said. “I molded the folks and put people in place so I could transition into retirement.”
Alongside his professional accomplishments, Tom’s contributions to AGC Maine have been equally transformative. His involvement began in the early 2010s when he volunteered to represent E.S. Boulos at AGC Maine. From there, he served on the Building Committee, Government Relations Committee, and later the Board of Directors, ultimately becoming an at-large member of the Executive Committee.
In 2023, Tom was elected President of AGC Maine, a role he embraced with characteristic energy and vision. Under his leadership, AGC Maine launched its Apprenticeship and Pre-apprenticeship programs, expanding outreach into high schools and strengthening the industry’s future talent pipeline. “We’re in a lot of high schools doing workforce development, training, apprenticeship,” Tom said. “That is the legacy I’m most proud of, I think.”
Throughout the weekend, attendees participated in various networking opportunities and events celebrating the strength and collaboration of Maine’s construction community. The Nonantum Resort and surrounding Kennebunk area provided a beautiful backdrop for discussions, connections, and honoring industry excellence.
AGC Maine extends its gratitude to all attendees and partners who made the 2025 Fall Conference & M.A.C.
