Twenty-six Maine Construction Businesses Recognized for Safety Program Participation

November 14, 2018, Augusta, Maine-The Associated General Contractors of Maine held their annual Safety Awards Dinner recently at the Senator Inn in Augusta. Since 1926 The National AGC Safety Awards (NASA) has been an ongoing effort to recognize achievements and provide a program that evaluates participant safety records. The NASA program compares a firm’s safety record with other AGC members across the nation according to the member’s size and construction type.

“Maine construction firms have performed well, earning several Chapter awards, and this year celebrating eleven national award winners and twenty-six companies progressing through the evolution process,” said Matt Marks, Chapter CEO.

Each participating firm receives a scorecard that provides a benchmark against similar firms throughout the United States. The AGC chapter safety awards are based on a weighted average of participation and the overall incident rate of the chapter’s general contractor members. Each chapter is divided into four divisions: less than 50 general contractor members, 50-100 general contractor members, 100-200 general contractor members, and over 200 general contractor members. Safety awards are given to members who have an incident rate 25% below each division’s average and members who have a zero incident rate in the following divisions: Building, Highway, Heavy/Industrial, Municipal/Utilities and Associate/Specialty. This process is an additional tool for safety improvements. This year the following firms received national awards:

Safety requires continuous improvement in many areas of our industry, and tonight’s recognition is about the collective efforts of owners and employees who exceeded the records of their peers” said Marks.
