SOUTH PORTLAND — The Associated General Contractors of Maine held their 68th annual meeting recently at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks. 2017-2018 Board President Jon Smith of Great Falls Construction officially passed the gavel to Denis Landry of Landry/French Construction. Denis will serve as AGC Maine Board President for a two-year term.

As President of AGC Maine, he plans to build on the foundation constructed by his predecessor, Jon Smith. Workforce development will continue to be a key focus for AGC Maine, Denis says. He hopes to expand its visits and outreach to the state’s vocational training programs.

“Our message to young workers is ‘You’re in a good place, and jobs are waiting for you,” he explains.

Denis also hopes to work collaboratively with the new Legislature, the administration of Governor Janet Mills, and various state agencies, especially when it comes to funding new infrastructure projects.

“The change in Augusta is a chance to open a new dialogue with the state, to have a seat at the table where decisions are made, and be a resource so that ultimately, we create a win-win for Maine and our industry,” he says.

Denis presented Jon Smith with a token of appreciation for his service. “Jon is an avid runner, participating on two AGC Maine running teams who tackled 200-mile races, it was appropriate to provide him a pair of Maine made running shoes from New Balance for his next journey,” said Landry.

AGC Maine members also elected new Board members to fill positions vacated by expired terms. Outgoing President Jon Smith of Great Falls Construction recognized termed Board members Mike Sullivan of Nortrax, and long-time Site Work Chair Chip Laite of Sargent Corporation. Three expiring members of the Board including a Past President Tim Ouellette of CPM Constructors, Mark Curtis of Gorham Sand & Gravel and Tom Sturgeon of Crooker Construction were re-elected. Members voted for Jason Chadwick of EJ Prescott to fill the only open Director’s seat.

“I am honored to take on this role and look forward to serving over the next two years. The industry has been good to me, and this is my chance to give back,” Denis remarked.
